At last weeks cross country race at Bury St Edmunds, Michael Gilbert had a great race finishing in 5th place, and Andrew Bell did well finishing 12th. Also scoring points for the men were Alex Smith, Andy Barber, Bill Banner and Paul J Sherritt. It was also good to see Graham Dixon racing again. Scoring points for the female team were Sirkka Love (3rd in her age catergory), Helen Spooner and Dawn Dixon.
There was an explosion of PB’s at Tarpley at the weekend just gone. The most impressive performance was from Cheryl Trundle. She was 1st in her age catergory, knocked over 6 minutes off her previous best and moves up to 2nd in the club records with an excellent 2:39:53 for 20 miles! Martin Lawrence also had a fantastic run knocking 17 seconds off his previous best which is 4th best in the club records (2:21:28). Yusuf Firat incredibly knocked over 12 minutes off his previous best, and moves to 6th in the club records (2:26:37). Also having a great run was Sil Clay, running well inside her target time of 3hrs with 2:58:03.
In the 10 mile race Mary Ann Tuli had a brilliant performance. She was 1st in her age catergory and knocked a whopping 3minutes and 43 seconds off her previous best with 1:10:30. She moves up to 3rd in the club records. Michael Gilbert was first Haverhill runner in, just using it as a training run and finishing in 1:08:15. Marc Benson, Neil Mustoe, David Mansfield, Carol Bliss(nearly 4 min improvement) and Karen Smyth Grant all had great runs, and all got PB’s. Wendy Aldhouse was an impressive 2min30 quicker than last year.
Some more silverware was picked up at Tarpley for last years Suffolk Grand Prix. Yusuf Firat and Mark White both got a trophy for 2nd place in their age groups and Bill Banner won his first ever running award for 3rd in his age group!
Shirley Fowler and Michelle Brazier Gardner enjoyed running a new half marathon, round the Thorpe Park Theme Park and Terry Braverman ran his 282nd parkrun!
