It was a very successful week for HRC with many great performances and PB’s. Last Wednesday Tony Bacon came first in his heat in the 800m at the Watford Open meet. He ran a speedy 2:22.
On Thursday Michael Gilbert put in another fantastic performance to finish first in the Ely 5K Kevin Henry race with 15:54. Peter Miller came 6th with 16:45, a new PB which moves him up to joint 4th on the club records. Alex Smith was 11th in 17:17. Tony Bacon ran 17:31 despite a nasty fall, for 16th place. Andrew Bell was just 1 second behind in 17th place. These performances and the points earned by all the other men meant the mens team finished in 2nd place! There were also PB’s for Andy Quick 18:21, David Percy 19:22, Steve Oglesby 23:53 and Rob Goodwin 16 seconds off PB. Paul J Sherritt showed a good improvement from the last Kevin Henry, he was over a minute quicker!
In the Ladies race the fab 5 were Sian-Marie Lucas, Kirsty Millard, Shirley Fowler, Teresa Franklin and Melanie Catten. Shirley got a PB by 29 seconds. Also getting PB’s were Keeley White 30:00, Kelly Hamed 1:11 off previous best and Emma Louise Brown 35:04. Annette Hall did her first 5K race since Kedington last year and finished with an amazing sprint finish.
On Sunday at Wimpole in the 10K Hoohaah race, Tony Bacon finished 2nd 38:03. Clair Gale knocked two and a half minutes off her PB to finish in 58:59!
At the Great Manchester Half Marathon Simba Kazhanje got a PB with a fantastic performance 1:31:58 and finished 128th.
Four ladies got PB’s at the Colchester Zoo Stampede 10K! Shirley Fowler 48:35, Morgane Bgg (1:38 off!) 49:28, Kristina Bright (1:51 off!) 56:51 and Michelle Brazier Gardner (2:14 off!) 57:45.
Michelle Haynes was 5th lady at the Clare Castle parkrun 23:44. Danielle Pettiford took 47 seconds off her PB here 31:37.
David Percy was 7th at the Gorleston Cliffs parkrun and got another PB 19:11.
Adam Everitt got a 26:50 PB at Haverhill parkrun. James Stubbs came 4th 20:20. Andy Brown ran a course best 26:40.
Also on Saturday the Juniors held their very first 3K time trial. Angus Duckworth-Smith was first boy 13:38 and Isla Williams was first girl 17:22.
At the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, in the Sprint Triathlon, John Nevin got PB’s in all 3 disciplines! He achieved a qualifying time for the European Championships!
His 5K split was 23:44.
