A busy parkrun week!!

Kirsty kicks some ass!
On Sunday 6th January Kirsty Millard ran the 10k race at The Great Barrow Challenge. By pushing herself for this run she not only managed a new 91 second PB but also came first AND broke the course record by over five minutes! What a triumph – well done!

2nd claim member Ian Elden had a brilliant run at Felixstowe parkrun, coming in 1st and grabbing a new 5km PB of 18:38!

The local New Year’s Day parkruns proved popular with HRC this year! Both Clare Castle and Haverhill held events and lots of runners took advantage of the staggered start times to do a NYD Double! Luke Witherseven managed a parkrun PB of 7 seconds at Clare whilst Clair Gale and Bryn Stuppell both got course PBs. Dave Mansfield, Naomi ShelmerdineMelanie Mansfield and Hayley Wilson ran Haverhill parkrun for the first time. Paul Murkin, Sarah Murkin, Graeme Johnston and Kim McGinleyall ran at Clare for the first time too. Michael Gilbert took first place running under HRC in a time of 16:23, only 14 seconds off the course record.

Mark White got a parkrun PB at Clare coming in 13th at 20:34 along with Craig Ladley who beat his previous parkrun PB by 20 seconds (21:47)

Special congratulations to Nicola King who celebrated her 100th parkrun at Haverhill on New Year’s Day! Denise TarrantSally Johnston and Jenny Adams all ran at Clare for the first time and congratulations to Wendy Aldhouse for completing her first parkrun!

The following Saturday at parkrun Sally Johnston got a new 5k PB of 37:48 down from 38:11 – well done!

14 HRC adult runners competed in the Suffolk Cross Country Championships at Culford School on Sunday 6th in a very competitive field. The ladies did brilliantly with the HRCA team finishing in 5th place out of 11 team Karen Martin was first home in 46:42 in 13th position (Senior women) closely followed by Vashti MacDonald-Clink in 15th with a time of 47:27. Tracy Quarrell and Morgane Bgg completed the team finishing in 50:48 and 51:42 respectively. Tracy also finished 5th in the WV45 category. Shirley Fowler had an excellent run finishing 8th in the FV50 (51:24) and Maria Reed finished 4th in the FV55 (60:46). The men’s HRCA team finished in 8th out of 12 teams with strong runs from all members. Peter Miller finished in 14th position with a time of 36:50 followed by Steve Mason in 37:46 in 20th position for the senior men. Andrew Bell was 5th in the V40 category in 38:27. Tony Bacon finished 32nd with a time of 40:35 followed by Craig Sisson in 34th place with a time of 40:51. Westley Walker had a strong run finishing in 10th in the MV40 category in a time of 40:59. Mark White was 16th in the MV45 category running the 10k race in 43:29. Ben Eccleston ran a strong race (i need your time). Bryan Rootes (Jane Rootes) collected some silverware for finishing 3rd in the MV50 category in 43:53. Michael Gilbert also ran wering C&C colours and had an excellent run finishing in 5th place (34:51).

Our junior runners were also out in force for the championships. Ben Phillips ran brilliantly and came 3rd in the U13 boys race (3k) in a speedy 12:25. Harry Holroyd also ran in the U13 race, coming 15th in a time of 13:58. Juliet Bigley came 17th in the U15 girls race (4k) with a time of 23:48. The U15 (4k) boys ran well with Benji Darken coming 16th (19:24), Ted Salt 19th (21:00), Tobin Sari 21st (22:05) and George Noakes 22nd (22:35).
