HRC dominates in hometown races

This weekend was dominated by two events! The Haverhill Festival of Running and the Manchester Marathon. 

Fifty five members ran in the Haver10k, 23 in the Haverhalf and 7 in the Havermara. Great turnout everyone! 

Chris Hawkins was the first HRC runner home and also 1st M50-59 with a time of 40:29. Closely followed by Martin Lawrence for 2nd place in that category with his time of 40:33. Bryan Rootes completed the HRC takeover of this category by coming 3rd M50-59 in 43:33. 

Mary-Ann Tuli claimed 1st F40-49 in 47:58 and was our first female back AND was 3rd lady overall! Teresa Franklin was 1st F50-59 with 52:05. The Nevin family had a successful morning with Joan taking 1st F60+ and John 2nd M60+! 

So many PBs were set in this race! Dionne Walford, Sally Johnston, Charlotte Denley (under 1hr for first time), Kellie Garrod (under hour for first time), Cheryl Eden, Graeme Johnston, Lisa Haworth, Kirsten Bagley, Mel Mansfield, Michelle Seymour, Luke Withers, Chris Wilson and Marion Goddard. I hope that’s everyone! 

Alison Clark also made this her first 10k, well done! This was also Liam Connaughtons first outing for the club during which he finished in less than 50 minutes. One to watch! 

More successes in the half marathon with Nicki Davis finishing First Lady and 5th overall in a time of 1:28:32 which also was a club record. She now holds 4th place! Daniel Pelling was 3rd in the M40-49 category, finishing in 1:40:16. Tracy Quarrell grabbed another half marathon PB with her time of 1:46:14 and finished 2nd in the F40-49 category! Cheryl Trundle was in the prizes again after coming back from her broken bones. She was 1st in the F60+ category after finishing in 1:52:03. Pat Casey and Andy Brown also finished with excellent PBs in the event. 

HRC took yet more trophies in the marathon with Gail Bevan finishing in the First Lady spot in 4:02:14. Our resident marathon machine Shirley Fowler finishing 1st F50-59 and 3rd Lady overall with her time of 4:08:36. Michelle Gardner was then 2nd F50-59 in 5:17:48. Dave Edwards was 1st M60+ finishing just a few minutes behind Shirley. Polly Wells had an excellent run in the marathon finishing with a 17 minute PB! 

Josh Wigmore had a brilliant run in the fun run and finished in third place!!

Up in Manchester our runners all ran really strong events and we had three new entries into the club records!

Karen Martin finished in a time of 3:20:49 giving her a massive PB of 20 minutes and 2 seconds- almost the 5k PB she set the other week!! This time puts her 2nd on the club records! Kirsty Millard achieved her seasons goal of a sub 3:30 marathon. Her training paid off and she finished in 3:28:15 giving her another PB and another entry on the club records in fifth position. Well done ladies!! 

The fourth club record set this week was by Andy Quick who’s marathon time of 3:03:07 put him in ninth place on the records and gave him an 11 minute PB. 

Eight runners managed times less than four hours including Craig Sisson who ran a sub 3:30 in his debut marathon and Trev Bunch who ran a storming time of 3:12:42. Ross Arnold managed a huge 17 minute PB from his previous marathon time finishing in 4:14:01. 

Nicola King and Char Green made their marathon debuts here. Hopefully there will be many more for them!

Jacqueline Hewitt, Denise Tarrant, Wendy Giddins and Kate Bykova all ran in the Manchester marathon relay for Joshua Tarrant Trust and raised £785 for our charity of the year. 

In parkrun news this week Paul Murkin and Fiona Tideswell finished in the top spots at Haverhill parkrun. Maria Reed made her parkrun debut after many times volunteering! Freddie Millard managed a 2nd PB in as many weeks at Haverhill! 

A busy week for the club and many many achievements from first runs to PBs to records. Well done everyone! This weekend see the next fixture of the Suffolk GP and club championship races hosted by Bungay Black Dog Running Club.
