The Bury Friday 5 series event was as popular as ever this week with nearly 50 HRC members heading to Nowton Park to run the picturesque course. It runs through the parkland then out onto mostly quiet country lanes up a rather long hill but then some lovely downhill on the second half of the race. Lots of runners managed great times and there were some PBs in the mix too. Simon Wallis shaved 1 min 10 off his previous time. Sarah Harris got her first and very well earned PB of the season with 1min 44s off her previous 5 mile time. Lisa Haworth also managed a great PB along with another for Sally Johnston, Dan Everett, Clare Everitt, Cheryl Eden, Jamie Randall, Tracy Quarrell, David Percy, Lee Taylor, Lena More and Bryn Stuppell. In addition to all these great PBs we had multiple entries onto the club records at this event! The ladies were on fire this week! Fiona Tideswell’s finished 2nd FV45 in time of 33:08 which puts her 2nd on the club records, Michelle Seymour’s 5 mile debut sees her now in 7th on the club records with 37:27, Tracy Quarrell is now 8th with 38:06 and Lena More is 9th with 38:13. I hope I’ve got those right but Graeme Johnston is on the case if not!! Teresa Franklin also had a great run to finish 3rd FV55! Andrew Bell finished in a speedy 28:52 and was 3rd MV40. HRC is now 8th overall.
Once again the juniors had a great turnout with 15 running in the 2.4K race. Ben Phillips finished in third place and first in his MU13 age group. Sophie Russell also finished 3rd in the FU15 age group. HRC juniors team has now moved into 4th position overall with 2 races to go!
HRC runners built on Fridays successes on Sunday at Steeple Bumpstead 10K (#sweatfest) with another 47 seniors and 9 juniors running in very challenging conditions! Yet despite the heat HRC came out on top…in every race! Peter Miller finished in 1st place with a new PB of 34:55 which puts him 4th on the club records. Nicki Davis was 1st lady to finish in 41:45 which also puts her 4th on the club records. Andrew Bell was 1st MV40. Ben Phillips won the 3k race in 11:18, one minute quicker than 2nd place. Jed Randall finished in 3rd place. Sophie Russel finished in 1st place for the females! A clean sweep for HRC. There were also course PBs from some members and a 10K PB for Daniel Pelling. Just getting round in the heat was a massive achievement so well done everyone no matter your result!
Elsewhere Sirkka Love was 2nd in her age category at the Speed of Light 5k and Fran Williams found a new trail half marathon, The Orwell Challenge which sounds great.
Phew – well done HRC on another great week of running!!
