Juniors have sights set on top spot…

A warm and humid time trial last week still produced a host of great performances! First and foremost our latest group of beginners completed their 5K challenge to mark the end of the course. Everyone did absolutely brilliantly and there were some brilliant sprint finishes. Thanks you to everyone who has helped with the beginners and also those who buddied up on the night. There were some new PBs set also – Sarah Harris knocked 1 min 45 off her previous time. Alison Goodwin has a new 5k PB and is so close to sub-23! Kellie Garrod is now under 28 minutes thanks to her new PB, new junior member Peter Johnston ran 21:11 and Will Hartwell got a new PB and is close to breaking the 21 minute mark. Bryn Stuppell got a time trial PB and is not under 26 minutes. Sally Johnston’s times are still falling with a new 5k PB of 31:26, Sara Hammett-Ridsdale also got a new 5K PB of 25:07 and Michelle Seymour knocked nearly two minutes off her previous 5k time to now sit at 22 minutes. Well done everyone!!

The next Friday 5 event was at Stowmarket and I hear there may have been a sneaky hill….thirteen seniors ran in the five mile race. Westley Walker was first HRC home in 25th place with a gun time of 30:22. Sara Hammett-Ridsdale was first HRC lady back in a time of 43:25 which was also a new 5 mile PB. Karina Hunt got a 5 mile PB finishing in 50:17 along with Cheryl Eden and Mark Phillips who also got PBs. Twelve of our juniors ran in the 2K race with Ben Phillips securing another 3rd place finish and 1st MU13! Benji Darken was 2nd HRC junior to finish and Juliet Bigley was first back for the females! In the 1K race Sebastian Garner finished in 6th place and Moses Bigley was 24th. Well done everyone! The juniors are now in 2nd place in the league! With one race to go they are only 130 points behind the leaders!

The Great Barrow Challenge events have also been under way this past week. Shirley Fowler, Jackie Dockerill, Michelle Brazier-Gardner and Ross Arnold all braved very hot conditions to complete the marathon or half marathon courses!

Congratulations to John Nevin who will be representing GB again at the World Triathlon Championships in Canada next year! An amazing achievement and we will look forward to hearing about it again!

Elsewhere HRC members were taking part in ‘non-traditional’ running events. Annette Hall did the Pretty Muddy 5k event in Brighton and Suz Carter-White and her daughter completed the Race in Cambridge. Suz’s daughter was first female to finish and they were also the first female team! Great to see people trying out different events and also getting youngsters involved!
