Gents finish first at Kevin Henry race

Last weeks Kevin Henry course is always a good one for a PB and even in the hot weather it did not disappoint! Our additional scoring gents finished in first place!! All of the first five finished in the top twenty and included a 2nd and 3rd place finish. 2nd place Peter Miller was mere seconds behind the winner! PBs were had by junior member Peter Johnston, Sarah Harris, Clare Everitt, Emma Brown, Becca Sims, Mandy Wilson, Lee Brown, Laura Brown Hall, Alison Goodwin, Carl Oldford and Simon Wallis. Next up is our own course – which despite the sizeable hill has been known for some brilliant performances! Join us this evening to test it out!

Friday night saw the return of the hugely popular Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog. In its 21st year this event always sells out in minutes and for good reason. The route is beautiful, relaxed and the atmosphere friendly. Nineteen HRC runners enjoyed an indeed wibbly and wobbly trot around Thetford and as always showed why we like to think of ourselves at the Happy Running Club, I certainly had an absolute ball. Michelle Gardner also managed to beat her previous time around the course and Rhiannon Marie enjoyed a lovely first five mile event.

Karina Hunt and Annette Hall went over to Stanstead and ran in the Stanstead Charity 7 – a rather hilly trail run! Well done ladies.

Shirley Fowler tacked on a few extra miles to her usual marathon distance this week and did the Peak District Ultra (32.8 miles). I bet the views were stunning!

Welcome back to Jo Hammond after 9 months out – hope to see you at club training or runs soon.

The Ekiden Relay event was held this weekend also and HRC entered a number of teams. The Haverhill Speedsters finished in 5th place out of 88 teams overall with a time of 2:41:28. The Haverhill Hardcore runners finished in 20th in 3:00:01, Haverhill Happy Feet finished 74th with a time of 3:48:24, Haverhill Hares 82nd in 3:57:26 and Haverhill Hurricanes 85th in 4:01:31. Charlie Halls managed the 11th quickest 7.2km leg of the day in 26:17. Our Junior U11 boys finished in 7th position in their category, U11 mixed in 11th, Haverhill Juniors Team A 12B finished 3rd and team B 12MX 9th. Well done everyone for your hard work on a challenging event and to Clare and Sarah for sorting out all the logistics!
