HRC running in the Cambridge flats and Devon mountains!

I’m back! Let’s get this show on the road as it’s been a busy week for HRC. Pull up chair, make a brew and have a read of this lot!

It was Cambridge Half Marathon this weekend, an event always well attended by HRC, even if at times it can be a contentious subject – is it too big? Too expensive? However despite this many HRC runners are celebrating PBs, debuts and just all around fun times. Lets start with a round of applause for the half marathon debuts: Danielle Pettiford who finished in a brilliant 2:09:06, Sam Boreham who smashed out an unreal 1:28:33 in his first half, Suz Carter-White made it on time for her first half (I hope!) and Jemma Benson came in at 2:27:59. James Hymas made his half marathon return whilst raising money for Children’s IBD Charity.

Ring the PB bell! These folks are all celebrating: Cheryl Eden (2:13:31), Lisa Harling (over 5 minutes off), Gina Hickey shaved 16 minutes off her PB, Emma Louise Brown ran a new 24 minute PB (whoop whoop), Stacey Anne Hall improved her time by nearly seven minutes, Naomi Shelmerdine (2:14:44), Rob Wigmore (2:15:48), Lee Anderson knocked 6 minutes off his previous PB, Sally Johnston came in nearly ten minutes quicker than her previous half, Keely White knocked 11 minutes off hers, Russell Docking 8 minutes, Josef Marcu got a new PB of 1:58:10 breaking the 2h mark, Josh Iron got a 6 minute PB he set only the week before, Alison Goodwin continues her form with a 2:27 minute PB and Liam Connaughton has a new PB of 1:43:23. PHEW!!!!

Congratulations to Fiona Tideswell for her amazing run. Fiona’s finish time of 1:29:42 saw her finish 38th female, 2nd in her age category and nab a championship place at London Marathon next year! This improves her time on the club records by two minutes, retaining her 5th place spot.

Trev Bunch was first HRC runner home in an awesome 1:24:27.

The 6pm group went on tour to Malta in search of some sunshine to go with their running and ran the Malta marathon and half marathons.

Josh Iron managed to get his first 5k PB in two years at time trial.

14 HRC runners headed off down to Devon to run the notorious Grizzly. 20 miles of mud, bogs, beaches, cliffs and hills. It is one of the toughest races around and most people just go for a good time! This year was the muddiest for a very long time with many people finishing upwards of 45 minutes later than normal! Most people were returning for their second, third or 16th if you’re Allison Austin! Special shout out to Mel Catten who finally made it after entering for many years and never being able to get there!!! She had no idea what hit her but toughed it out like a veteran.

Crickey just realised I forgot about xc!! A small but totally dedicated group of HRC headed to Norfolk to continue our standing in the Suffolk Winter League! By all accounts it was a bit windy and muddy. Great effort guys.

Also Anna O’Hare and Ben Phillips ran xc for Suffolk this weekend! Amazing effort and well done!!

This was last week but it was so good I couldn’t not mention it. Ellen Williams ran the Cambridge Boundaries Marathon and finished in 4:40 – only 55 (yes 55!!) minutes faster than her previous best!! Amazing, well done Ellen!!!

Hopefully I’ve covered everything!! Bit of a marathon write up (pun absolutely intended).
