Great HRC turnout despite event cancellations

On Saturday it was the inaugural Find Your Adventure Ancient Trails event. The route took in some beautiful scenery and challenged runners along the well known Roman Road as well as the tricky Fleam Dyke. A number of HRC took on the challenge including Shirley Fowler, Carl Oldford (celebrating his birthday in style!), Sally Johnston (her furthest yet!), Andy Brown (longest run!), Polly Wells, Annette Hall, Dan Everitt (longest run!), Teresa Franklin (6 days after The Grizzly!), Sandra Hiscox (6 days after The Grizzly AND 1st in her age category), Jo Vickery and Sara Hammett-Ridsdale (longest run!). A great turnout from HRC in a new local event!

On the Sunday Haversports events went ahead and Shirley Fowler got 1st in her age category in the marathon (after running the Ancient Trails the day before!), Christine Taylor was 1st in the 50-59 category in the Haverhalf, Carl Oldford ran the marathon after the Ancient Trails the day before, Sally Johnston also ran the Haver10K after The Ancient Trails – convinced by Cheryl Eden, Jacqueline Hewitt ran in the Haverhalf, supported by Fran Williams in the marathon. Another age category prize for HRC with Glenn Fruish claiming first 50-59M at Haverhalf. Lyn Fish proudly completed her first 10K, not long after completing the beginners course – well done! Sara Hammett-Ridsdale also ran the 10K after the 15 miles the previous day and managed a course best whilst husband Andy got a 10K PB. Trev Bunch had a storming run in the Havermara, finishing 2nd overall in a time of 3:12:36.

The ever popular Stowmarket Half also managed to go ahead and had a great HRC turnout too. Jamie Randall managed to knock almost three minutes off his previous best, finishing in 1:31:59. Kylie Mitchell made her half marathon debut and finished in 2:28. Sarah Harris also ran her first half event and finished strong in 2:17! Also trying the half for the first time was Sarah Louise, again finishing in 2:17! Maria Reed also ran and finished in 2:14:58

Some parkrun news as sadly there won’t be any of that for a while either. Fiona Tideswell was first female at the challenging Wimpole event and Rupert also got a PB of 19:39! Naomi Shelmerdine celebrated her 50th parkrun milestone!

A few different events also this week! Hot off a great run at The Grizzly Helen Spooner ran the Hargrave 10K xc event on Saturday. Lynette Garstang added four legs to her two and ran a Cani trail run at Thetford Forest and bagged herself a trophy in the process!

HRC juniors have been out and about this week with some great results. Charlie Minnette ran in the Milton Keynes Festival of Running 5K and finished 16th of 354 runners with a time of 20:07! One to watch! Ben Phillips continued his successes and ran in the English Schools cross country in Liverpool. Ben finished in 76th place out of 334 runners. He was the first Cambridgeshire male home! Well done Ben.

One of our youngest members had a fantastic weekend too! Clair Nagorski’s little girl Pixie-Lea got her third parkrun PB in a row and then beat runners much older than her to finish first U11 girl in the Haversports fun run! Pixie-Lea saw the trophy on arrival and announced that she wanted it! She focussed and went away with her trophy! Well done Pixie-Lea!

I don’t know what I will have to report next week but we will just have to play it by ear…..
