Cross Country is back!

CROSS COUNTRY IS BACK!!!

Yes, it is that time of the year where I start harping on about off road running and mud!! If you have taken part in xc before, with or without HRC, you will know how beneficial it is for your running but also how much fun it is! Don’t worry if you haven’t done it before – we’ve got you covered.

Each year we enter the Suffolk Winter League which is a series of xc events around Suffolk. You don’t need to sign up in advance. Just arrive on the day and make sure you give your name to the person in charge of HRC runners that day. Each race is approximately 5 miles long (Framlingham has been 5.6ish for the past couple of years) for 16+, 11-16y run 2-2.5 miles (approx. 3.5k) and some events have U11 races of approx. 800m. The important thing to remember is pace doesn’t matter like in a road race. You will be slower so just enjoy the ride!

If you’re looking to secure prize spots then you need to compete in 4 or more races and your best four count.

All runners are placed in teams based on their finish position. Each team is the first seven men and first four women to finish, the next team is the next seven men and four ladies and so on until everyone is accounted for.

The first event is on Sunday 7th November in Framlingham. You can check out the calendar on the website and the xc pages for more info. I will post an event group beforehand. It is a great course, tough in places but you get to run the moat of the ‘Castle on the Hill’ as sung about by Mr Sheeran.

We are also holding some xc training sessions for seniors and juniors. These sessions will be led by two coaches and are open to anyone whether you have never set foot off the tarmac or you are permanently caked in mud. Come and join us!

The sessions are as follows:

Saturday 23rd October: Bryan and Trev at Flood Park (opposite Sainsburys)

Saturday 30th October: Sil and Bryan

Saturday 13th November: Andrew and Sil in Kedington

Saturday 27th November Andrew and Trev

All sessions will be from 08:30-09:30.
