From a straw poll conducted with members at the end of last year the charity that most people wished to support was MND, with our friend Neil Mustoe in mind.
Not only is Neil a top bloke and a dear friend to many he has also been an inspiration to a large number of our members through his coaching of the Beginners Course over the years.
We do prefer to support a charity on a more personal basis so the Committee contacted Neil’s family and asked for advice. They would like to support Jemeem Sreedharan and his team at Kings College Hospital in London who are researching the protein that is deregulating in motor neurone disease. Neil has taken part in this trial over the last two years and has great optimism for a positive outcome. They are a great team and are working very hard for a breakthrough. Neil is extremely impressed with their work.
The Committee have been in touch with the team at Kings College Hospital and they are delighted we can support them. The donations will go towards a specific item of equipment for their research.
There will be a number of opportunities to fund raise for our charity this year, let’s hope we can help the research team as much as possible. There will be a Just Giving page established to assist with fund raising and will be shared widely through the year.
Thank you all in advance.
