Horace Shuriah has recently represented the UK at the US Airforce Trials and later this year will be on Team UK at the Invictus Games. Well done Horace, those are both great achievements!
Here’s what he’s been up to.
The Royal British Legion were invited to attend the US Airforce Trials in Las Vegas, part of the Warrior Games (a competition between the US Airforce, Army, Navy and Marines). With less than 2weeks notice the British Legion managed to put together a team of 31 injured, sick and wounded Veterans (including myself) and 10 members of staff to attend the games.
There were various disciplines which we could choose. Mine was indoor rowing, cycling, swimming and athletics. It was an honour to be asked to represent the United Kingdom, Royal British Legion and the British military community in the US Airforce Trials. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I wasn’t going to let go.
We left from Heathrow to Las Vegas on 5th March 2023, I think it was, and arrived back in the UK on 20th March 2023. The UK team managed to win 98 medals. And before you ask, no I didn’t win any medals but just taking part was more than enough. It was an awesome 2 weeks for which I was glad to have attended.
It was a great competition with everyone cheering for everyone because it was more about how sports helps with recovery, and even though we were from different parts of the world we were one big family.
