Michael Gilbert has now won back to back Kevin Henry races! At Kedington he paced his race brilliantly, to sprint past the race leader in the last 100 meters to win by 3 seconds! This gave him a time of 16:11, which is very impressive over such a hilly course. It was a very impressive performance by the mens team with Alex Smith finishing 9th in 17:16. He now has 8 PB’s this year just 1 behind the leaders of the PB league! Andrew Bell finished 18th in 17:52 after having a pre-race beer! Peter Miller was 19th also in 17:52, which moves him up to 8th in the club records! Westley Walker was 28th in 18:47 & Andy Quick was 30th in 18:57. These positions along with the fact that we had 41 men running all contributing at least point, meant the men finished in 2nd place! Mikey Dennison also ran a PB.
Our ladies team finished in 5th place with Rachel Darvill, Cheryl Trundle, Vashti MacDonald-Clink and Michelle Haynes our top 4 women. There was also an excellent turnout for the ladies with all 36 contributing at least a point. Clair Gale ran an 18 second PB, her 5th this year!
At the Ekiden Relay in Woodbridge our A team did well finishing 13th out of 199 teams! Tony Bacon ran a good first leg running 7.2K in 25:25 and was 4th quickest! Trev Bunch was on the 2nd leg, and ran 5K in 19:14, 10th quickest for his leg. On the 3rd leg Alex Smith ran a 10K PB of 37:07, 9th quickest for his leg. Craig Sisson ran the 4th leg, 5K in 21:14. 5th leg was Andy Quick, 10K in 40:51. The last leg was a 5K and Westley Walker was 12th quickest for his leg running 19:01.
In the Junior Ekiden Jed Randall ran 2 very quick legs for the under 11’s. He ran his first 1.1 mile leg in 7:23, and in his 2nd leg he slowed down by just a second to run 7:24!
Kirsty Millard ran an impressive 5:31:05 in the 31 mile Chiltern Challenge! Simon Wallis and David Percy ran one mile less in the Essex 30 mile race. Both finishing in 6hrs 34minutes.
John Nevin won his age group in the Birmingham Triathlon.
Karina Hunt knocked a whopping 2 minutes off her 10K PB at the Race for Life in Cambridge!
There were an amazing 31 PB’s for our members this week.
Michael Gilbert became the first Haverhill male runner to win a Kevin Henry race (Sian-Marie has won the female race before) , and broke another club record in the process! He ran 16:01 for the 5K at Carver Barracks on Thursday, 25 seconds ahead of 2nd place! Alex Smith came in 15th place nearly half a minute quicker than his previous best in 17:13. This puts him 4th on the club records. Peter Miller came 25th in 17:59 which puts him 10th on the club records. Kirsty Millard was our first female to finish, and she ran a new best of 21:31 which is 6th in the club records! Rachel Darvill was our 2nd female finisher and she moves to 8th on the club records with her 21:44.
Also getting PB’s here were: Tony Gooding, Jo Hammond, Marc Benson, Michaela Cowell, Westley Walker, Mark White, Clair Gale, Lee Brown, Josh Iron(by 55 seconds!), Vashti Macdonald-Clink, Alison Goodwin (by 28 seconds!), Emma Moss, Rob Goodwin, Nigel Fitch, Lynnette Garstang, Teresa Franklin, Michelle Brazier Gardner (57 seconds off!) and Sarah Goodey!
Kevin Millard ran 20:34 at Carver Barracks which is a 21 second improvement. Then on Sunday he ran another PB at the Newmarket 10K beating his previous best by 1min 33 seconds! He now has 8 PB’s this year and is in 2nd place in the PB table!
David Percy also got 2 PB’s at the same races. For the 5K he ran under 20minutes for the first time and at the 10K (42:37) he improved his best by 2 minutes!
Carl Oldford was another with 2 PB’s from the same races. He improved his 5K by over a minute and his 10K (54:55) by an incredible 6 minutes!!
The Newmarket 10K was a very successful day for our ladies. Mary Ann Tuli was 2nd female, Cheryl Trundle was 1st FV60 and Teresa Franklin was 1st FV50! We were also the first female team, with Mary Ann Tuli, Kirsty Millard and Cheryl Trundle making up the team. Mikey Dennison also got a PB at Newmarket taking over 6 minutes off his previous best!
In the Great Newham London 10K race on Sunday. Kelly Mepham managed to get a PB even though she had a horrible race. Kelly had to stop twice due to dizziness from the heat, but still came in 43:04, over a minute better than her best and good enough to put her 7th on the club records!
Shirley Fowler managed to run 3 marathons in the space of 6 days at the Great Barrow marathon challenge! She also impressively got quicker with each one, and managed to do her first back to back marathons.
Simon Wallis ran 2 marathons at Great Barrow in the space of 5 days! He ran about 26 minutes quicker in his 2nd one! He completed it in 4:00:37 and came in 4th place!
Tony Bacon ran the Great Barrow with Simon and finished in 3rd place in 4:00:26. Tony also got a PB at the Stort 5, which means he stays top of the PB league with 9!
Westley Walker came 5th at the Stort 5 with 31:14. Ross Arnold ran his first 10 mile race at the Stort 10. Yusuf Firat was 2nd MV50 at the Olympic Park 10K. Tony Gooding came 6th at the Clacton parkrun. Dave Greenham ran the Gold Coast Marathon 6:07:18.

Michael Gilbert had a great race at the Bury 5 on Friday. He came 2nd with a chip time of 26:54! This was exactly the same chip time as the winner, so could have possibly won it if he’d started right on the start line (he was 2 secs behind on gun time). This time puts Michael top of the club records by over a minute!
Haverhill were also 2nd mens team! With Andrew Bell & Tony Bacon making up the rest of the team. They came 12th and 13th respectively finishing with exactly the same chip time of 29:15!
Kirsty Millard had a fantastic run, knocking over 2 minutes off her previous best! She moves up to 4th on the club records with 36:01! Kevin Millard is showing great improvement at the moment, he ran 34:52 and took 1min7secs off his previous best! He now has 6 PB’s this year which puts him joint 2nd in the PB league! Neil Mustoe took a good chunk off his PB too (1min28 secs), he ran 35:53. It was also his 6th PB of the year and so joins Kevin in joint 2nd place in the league.
Teresa Franklin took 8 seconds off her PB, running 41:32.
Ross Arnold also had a good race, running 40:14.
On Saturday there was a lot of parkrunning going on. Tony Bacon was first at Harlow parkrun. Vashti Macdonald-Clink (V Mac Clink) was 2nd female at the Great Cornard parkrun with 23:27 which would have been a PB if the course wasn’t short. Lynnette Garstang, Carl Oldford and Alison Goodwin also had great runs here, but sadly miss out on PB’s due to the short course.
Shirley Fowler did Gorleston parkrun in 23:36, she was 7th female and got a PB.
Horace Shuriah ran an incredible 50 miles on Saturday! This was in the Kent 50 Challenge. He finished in 27th place in 10:44:24!
On Sunday Alex Smith finished 2nd in the Quendon and Rickling 5K in 17:57!

It was a very successful week for Haverhill Running Club. On Friday, Mary Ann Tuli won some nice silverware for being first FV45 at the Framingham 5 with a speedy 34:03. On Saturday Tony Bacon came 2nd at the Great Notley parkrun, finishing just 12 seconds behind the winner in 18:22.
On Sunday there was a tremendous turnout at the Steeple Bumpstead, with 34 HRC in the 10K and 3 in the 3K!
In the 10K Michael Gilbert came in first! In a great time of 35:51, considering the sweltering conditions. Also defying the hot conditions were Alex Smith and Peter Miller who had a great battle for 4th place, which pushed them both to PB’s! Alex beat Peter by just 2 seconds (40:29)! It was Alex’s 6th PB for this year, and he is now joint 2nd in the PB league.
Peter finished in 5th place with 40:31. Martin Lawrence also finished in the top 10, he came 9th in 42:39. Carl Oldford ran his first 10K race in 1:00:53.
In the 3K Jed Randall came 12th in 15:07. Jacob Catten had an amazing run and was 1st in his age category (age 4-7), running 17:34! Adam Everitt also had a good run coming in 39th place in 19:18, out of 138 runners.
At the Hatfield Forest Hoohaah 10K, Westley Walker came 8th in 41:16. Nigel Fitch ran an impressive 45:49 in his first 10K for the club in 27th place.
Shirley Fowler’s granddaughter ran the Subway 5K in Cambridge in 41:14, not bad for a 2 year old!!!

Kelly Mepham had an absolutely fantastic run at the Newmarket Kevin Henry 5K. She came 2nd Female and took an incredible 43 seconds off her previous best running 19:29! This puts her 2nd on the club records. She still doesn’t like 5K though, she would much rather run a Marathon!
Michael Gilbert put in another great performance running 16:21 and came 3rd overall! Andrew Bell put in a great sprint finish to come 9th and beat Saffron Strider rival Tony Bacon.
Alex Smith wasn’t far behind in 13th place and a 3 second PB with 17:41, which moves him up to 5th on the club records. Mark White (19:08), Andy Quick(19:17)and Yusuf Firat(19:31) also had great runs to be the top 6 Haverhill men.
Keeley White took over 4 minutes off her PB!!!! She ran 30:42.
Rob Goodwin beat his PB by 1:01 (26:25)! Nigel Fitch got a 9 second PB. Josh Iron got a 4 second PB. Kevin Millard got a 1 second PB (20:55)!
Kirsty Millard also had a great run to be 2nd Haverhill female and was just 3 seconds of her PB running 21:43. Sian-Marie Lucas & Rachel Darvill were 3rd and 4th Haverhill females.
Yusuf’s 5 mile handicap race on Sunday looked like lot’s of fun. Dave Greenham was first in, followed by Daniel Everitt in 2nd (taking almost 4min off his PB!) and 3rd in was Melanie Mansfield. Kevin Millard is on fire at the moment and got his 2nd PB of the week, taking 2minutes 21seconds off his previous best! Rob Goodwin also got his 2nd PB of the week and showed fantastic improvement, finishing in 48:56, chopping over 5 minutes off his previous best! Alison Goodwin also got a big PB taking almost 2 minutes off her previous best!
In the Sutton Mini Beast 2.5K Jed Randall ran 12:41 and finished 13th out of 300 runners! He was also 3rd in his age category!
It has been a busy couple of weeks for Tony Bacon. He came first in the club time trial in a time of 17:17 which puts him 5th on the club records! Then at the London Vitality 10K he ran a PB of 35:42 which extends his lead at the top of the PB league with 8! Then on Saturday he came first in the Hatfield Forest parkrun with a time of 17:45, which puts him 7th on the club records!
Alex Smith was 2nd in the club time trial with a time that puts him 8th on the club records 17:53. Youngster Jed Randall ran an excellent time trial 22:48 PB, and came 4th overall and 1st in his age category at the Bury 2K Junior parkrun 8:39. Clair Gale, Alison Goodwin and Rob Goodwin all got PB’s in the time trial.
At the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K, Mark White continued his recent good form with a PB of 40:01. Kevin Millard had a great run knocking 1min 18secs off his previous best with a time of 45:24. Ross Arnold got his 4th PB of the year with 52:29.
At the Gorleston Cliffs parkrun Sarah Stuppell got a 5K PB of 38:19, taking 31 seconds off her previous best!
At the Flaming June Half Marathon Paul J Sherritt ran his first half marathon for 14 months with a very respectable 2:12. Vashti McDonald-Clink ran a PB of 50:54 at the Worthing 10K.
