There were some great performances at the Benfleet 15M race on Sunday 21st January, in cold and snowy conditions. First in for Haverhill in 16th place (out of 657 finishers) was Steve Mason, with an impressive time of 1:42:13. Next in was Trev Bunch, it’s good to see him in Black & White again. He finished in 38th place in 1:47:32, and was 14th in his age group. Yusuf Firat was 16th in his age group 136th overall in 2:01:40. A great performance by the mens team at the Suffolk County Cross Country Championships at Culford School, saw them finish in 2nd place! Michael Gilbert led the way, in his first cross country race of the season. He started at a steady pace and gradually worked his way through the field, and was flying at the end to finish in a fantastic 6th place! This means he should get a call up to run for Suffolk in the Inter-Counties cross country championships! He finished the 12K course in 43:18. Next in was Steve Mason finishing very strong, to just beat Mat Bigley in a sprint finish. Steve finished 13th in 45:01, with Mat finishing in 14th in 45:02, who was 3rd MV40. Andrew Bell finished 23rd in 46:26. Mark White was 11th MV45 in 52:24 and Glenn Fruish finished 11th MV55 in 1:00:37.
Unfortunately we didn’t manage to get a full ladies team out, but Sue Turley and Maria Reed put in good performances. Sue was 13th FV50 and Maria was 7th FV55.
In the junior boys U13 race, Jed Randall and Angus Duckworth-Smith, found the race very tough, but did very well in a high quality field. Jed finished 15th and Angus finished in 18th.
We have a new entry into our PB league, with Kristina Bright joining with her PB at Clare parkrun 28:34, 30 seconds off her previous best! Chis Hawkins came 3rd at Clare 19:58 and Paul Krause came 4th 20:36.

Yusuf Firat and Horace Shuriah successfully completed the Dawn to Dusk 32 mile race ultra race in 7hrs 8minutes. Ray Hampford and Lee Taylor ran the half marathon. Lee ran 2:40:57 and Ray ran 2:51:49 which could be a PB. Mary Magee did the 10K and finished in 1:15:04. Afterwards they had the added bonus of meeting Fauja Singh the worlds oldest marathon runner (106 years old!).
Amanda Freemantle completed the tough Portsmouth Coastal Trail Marathon, in awful wet and freezing cold weather conditions. She finished in 5:59:04 and was pleased with her well deserved medal.
I forgot to mention last week that Ross Arnold ran a course PB at Clare parkrun running 24:42.
This week Alex Smith was first in another Australian parkrun, this time it was the Geographe Bay parkrun. Running in the heat, he managed 17:09, over a minute quicker than the next timed finisher!
Chris Hawkins was first in the Clare parkrun in 20:06. Sil Clay was 2nd Female 25:29, just 9 seconds away from first place! Daniel Everitt got another parkrun best by about 20 seconds 26:20.
