There were some great performances at the weekend in some very tough muddy conditions. In the Ouse Valley Way Marathon Andy Barber came 18th overall and he was 3rd MV50! Shirley Fowler found the going tough but still finished in 5:00:22, after running 5.76 miles in the Round Norfolk Relay, and running a marathon the week before. Michelle Brazier Gardner also ran a marathon the week before and was about 7 minutes quicker this week (5:21:32)!
A great time was had by all at the Round Norfolk Relay, and the team finished in 27th place out of 61 teams. Bryan Rootes had an excellent run, he was 10th fastest on his stage and 5th fastest in his age category. He also had the best age performance score from Haverhill. Trev Bunch was 15th fastest on his stage and also 5th in his age category. Alex Smith was 21st fastest on his stage and 1st in his age category! Karen Martin was 4th fastest in her age category.
Sarah Stuppell was the only runner to move up the PB league this week. She got a PB at the Gorleston parkrun, taking 1min 4seconds off her previous best!
The Hatfield Forest Half Marathon was like a 13.1 mile cross country run, which Grace Judge and Cherilyn Lane thoroughly enjoyed as can be seen in the photo below.
Ross Arnold completed the Harvest Trail Half Marathon in 2:22:13. He’s planning on getting a PB on an easier course in Ipswich next week.
Maria Reed was first Haverhill runner in the Shelford 5K fun run. Josh Iron did well after cycling 21 miles to the race and missing the start by 10 minutes!
John Nevin impressively competed in the World Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam. He finished 36th out of 46 starters in his age category.

Michael Gilbert has been breaking records again! This time it’s the club 10K record which was set 16 years ago! Michael ran 33:41 taking almost 2 minutes off his previous best! He did this in the Greater Cambridge 10K and came 3rd in the race.
Alex Smith also had a great race, he ran 35:48 PB and finished in 9th place. This time puts Alex in 7th place on the club records and moves him joint 2nd in the PB league on 10 PB’s.
Tony Bacon also got a PB running for Saffron Striders, he is now top outright in the PB league.
Jo Vickery ran her best ever 10K 59:17, as did Karina Hunt 1:05:56 taking 2:42 off her previous best!
In the Great North Run, Sil Clay was first Haverhill to finish 2:01:07. Steve Oglesby was not far behind running a PB of 2:02:33.
In the Thetford Marathon Simon Wallis ran 4:31:20, Shirley Fowler 4:44:58 and Michelle Brazier Gardner 5:28:17.
The Millers ran the Budapest Half Marathon with Peter finishing in 1:23:35 in 89th place.
Ioulian Iordanov ran his ran his first 10 mile race at Swineshead 1:20:18. Hayley Wilson ran the Felixstowe 10 mile race in 1:44:39.

Michael Gilbert broke another record last Thursday in the club time trial. He broke the all-comers record for the time trial course by 19 seconds, running 16:19! He beat his previous best for the course by 32 seconds!
Peter Miller also had a great run in the time trial. He ran a PB of 17:14 which puts him 5th on the All-comers table and 4th on the Haverhill table! He was 32 seconds quicker than his previous best 5K.
Andy Quick lived up to his name, getting a PB of 18:44. Sarah Goodey got a 26:48 PB, Cheryl Claydon a 27:38 PB, and Keeley White got 30:05 knocking 37 seconds off her previous best!
At the Wissey Half Marathon Yusuf Firat and Kirsty Millard were both 2nd in their age categories. Yusuf ran 1:36:29 and Kirsty ran 1:37:21. Ross Arnold made a good half marathon debut with 2:01:36.
At the Harlow 10 mile race Michael Dennison was very pleased with his 1:11:08 and came 36th.
Kym Cromarty was 2nd in her age category at the Takeley 10K, running 52:08.
At the Bedford Half Marathon Amanda Freemantle got a 2:20:39 PB and Glenn Fruish, Shirley Fowler and Michelle Brazier Gardner all had good runs.
Chris Hawkins came 5th at the Great Cornard parkrun with 19:47.
On Bank Holiday Monday Shirley Fowler came 4th overall and 3rd female in the Grass Snake 12 mile multi-terrain race in Chelmsford in a time of 1:53:51.
Yusuf Firat was 1st MV50 in the Lee Valley Velodrome 10 mile race on Saturday. He ran 1:17:50 and was 21st overall.
At the Great Cornard parkrun Alex Smith finished in 2nd place running 17:55. Adam Everitt was 2nd in the under 11 category and got a PB of 28:09. At the Cambridge parkrun Terry Braverman ran his 304th parkrun!
Please note the last date to get a PB for the PB league will be Sunday 29th October.
Michael Gilbert had an amazing run at the Ipswich Twilight 5K. He ran 15:36 smashing the previous club record set by himself, by 25 seconds! He even beat a Great Britain international athlete – Emelia Gorecka!
In the Ipswich Twilight 10K Neil Mustoe, Marc Benson & Ross Arnold all got PB’s! Marc Benson got his 6th PB of the year running 44:06. Just a second behind, Neil Mustoe got his 7th PB of the year and is now 4th in the PB league. Ross Arnold took an incredible 3 minutes off his previous best time! He finished in 49:29.
Tony Gooding came 4th in the Clacton parkrun with 20:43.
Tony also ran the Clacton half marathon the day after and finished in 1:43:02. Theresa Jones ran 2:10:44.
Andy Barber ran 1:39:09 and Peter Brunning ran 2:04:53 in the Kimbolton Half Marathon.
Peter Miller had an awesome run on Sunday, winning the Hoad Hill Half Marathon! He ran it in 1:37:56, a brilliant time for such a tough course, which included running up and down Hoad Hill (pictured below). He was over a minute ahead of 2nd place! This was a race in which he finished 4th last year.
On Saturday, we had a lot of runners parkrunning. Tony Bacon ran his best 5K as a Haverhill runner, coming 2nd in the Cambridge parkrun in 17:20. He stays 5th on the club records, but improves his time by 10 seconds. Michael Dennison came 20th in 19:28. Karina Hunt ran a personal course record at Cambridge running 33:01. Terry Braverman ran his 303rd parkrun!
Tony Gooding came 8th at Clacton parkrun running 20:35.
Jamie Randall came 19th at the Whiteley parkrun with 21:30.

There were lot’s of good performances at the Kevin Henry 5K race in Cambridge last Thursday, including many PB’s despite the course appearing to be about 100metres too long! The mens team did well to finish 3rd team. Michael Gilbert led the way with another super quick run to finish 4th in 16:10. Next was Alex Smith who got a PB of 17:01 which is 4th best on the club records (This was Alex’s 9th PB this year just one away from the top of the PB league). Andrew Bell followed in 17:31. Then it was Peter Miller with 17:46 which is a PB and 8th best on the club records. Michael Dennison was next with 19:18 also a PB, and Mark White ran 19:25.
Our four fastest females were Kirsty Millard, Karen Martin, Vashti MacDonald-Clink (who got a 1 second PB!) and Shirley Fowler.
Also getting a 1 second PB, was Kevin Millard, who now has 10 for this year and goes joint top of the PB league with Tony Bacon. Jason and Clair Gale(45 seconds off!), Alison and Rob Goodwin, Carl Oldford and Emma Moss also got PB’s.
The day after many people raced again in the Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog, which was just short of 5 miles. Mark White finished 12th in 34:59 and was 3rd in his age category. Kirsty Millard finished in 38:36 and was first female under 40 to finish! Shirley Fowler ran 44:28 and was 3rd in her age category. Sirkka Love was 1st in her age category running 48:08. Michelle Brazier Gardner had a great run in 50:05 showing she is in PB form.
On Saturday Mat Bigley came first in the Walthamstow parkrun in 18:31. Tony Gooding came 6th in the Clacton parkrun 20:56.
On Sunday Terry Braverman ran the Cannock Chase 10K in 1:20:59 and was 2nd MV70.
