There were an amazing 31 PB’s for our members this week.
Michael Gilbert became the first Haverhill male runner to win a Kevin Henry race (Sian-Marie has won the female race before) , and broke another club record in the process! He ran 16:01 for the 5K at Carver Barracks on Thursday, 25 seconds ahead of 2nd place! Alex Smith came in 15th place nearly half a minute quicker than his previous best in 17:13. This puts him 4th on the club records. Peter Miller came 25th in 17:59 which puts him 10th on the club records. Kirsty Millard was our first female to finish, and she ran a new best of 21:31 which is 6th in the club records! Rachel Darvill was our 2nd female finisher and she moves to 8th on the club records with her 21:44.
Also getting PB’s here were: Tony Gooding, Jo Hammond, Marc Benson, Michaela Cowell, Westley Walker, Mark White, Clair Gale, Lee Brown, Josh Iron(by 55 seconds!), Vashti Macdonald-Clink, Alison Goodwin (by 28 seconds!), Emma Moss, Rob Goodwin, Nigel Fitch, Lynnette Garstang, Teresa Franklin, Michelle Brazier Gardner (57 seconds off!) and Sarah Goodey!
Kevin Millard ran 20:34 at Carver Barracks which is a 21 second improvement. Then on Sunday he ran another PB at the Newmarket 10K beating his previous best by 1min 33 seconds! He now has 8 PB’s this year and is in 2nd place in the PB table!
David Percy also got 2 PB’s at the same races. For the 5K he ran under 20minutes for the first time and at the 10K (42:37) he improved his best by 2 minutes!
Carl Oldford was another with 2 PB’s from the same races. He improved his 5K by over a minute and his 10K (54:55) by an incredible 6 minutes!!
The Newmarket 10K was a very successful day for our ladies. Mary Ann Tuli was 2nd female, Cheryl Trundle was 1st FV60 and Teresa Franklin was 1st FV50! We were also the first female team, with Mary Ann Tuli, Kirsty Millard and Cheryl Trundle making up the team. Mikey Dennison also got a PB at Newmarket taking over 6 minutes off his previous best!
In the Great Newham London 10K race on Sunday. Kelly Mepham managed to get a PB even though she had a horrible race. Kelly had to stop twice due to dizziness from the heat, but still came in 43:04, over a minute better than her best and good enough to put her 7th on the club records!
Shirley Fowler managed to run 3 marathons in the space of 6 days at the Great Barrow marathon challenge! She also impressively got quicker with each one, and managed to do her first back to back marathons.
Simon Wallis ran 2 marathons at Great Barrow in the space of 5 days! He ran about 26 minutes quicker in his 2nd one! He completed it in 4:00:37 and came in 4th place!
Tony Bacon ran the Great Barrow with Simon and finished in 3rd place in 4:00:26. Tony also got a PB at the Stort 5, which means he stays top of the PB league with 9!
Westley Walker came 5th at the Stort 5 with 31:14. Ross Arnold ran his first 10 mile race at the Stort 10. Yusuf Firat was 2nd MV50 at the Olympic Park 10K. Tony Gooding came 6th at the Clacton parkrun. Dave Greenham ran the Gold Coast Marathon 6:07:18.

Okie dokie HRC members. Here is your training/run/event round up for the week ahead.
6:30: Due to unforeseen circumstances Andrew is not able to take this weeks session and we don’t have anyone to stand in this time so there will not be the hills session detailed on the website.
6:30 – Trev Bunch will be running the following session at Castle Manor: set 1: intervals (20mins ish) 10 x 400m at more than 5k pace with 100m float recoveries. Set 2: (15 mins ish) 5 x 200m with 300m walk/jog recoveries.
7:30- Yusuf Firat and friends will be running a session from the Leisure Centre. 400m reps using the circuit near the hockey pitches. More details to be found on his post.
Thursday: Instead of the usual club run from the Leisure Centre we are offering a practice run of the Kevin Henry route. Meet at the Meadow/Race HQ down the left hand side of the Barnardiston Arms, Kedington. 6:50 for 7pm start. Nigel Chapman is organising run leaders of different pace groups. But if there isn’t one that suits you then grab a buddy and just go for it. If you don’t know the route then shout up and I’m sure you can join with someone who does.
Some people may run there/back from the sports centre. I would encourage you to post on the group page and find out who is if you want company to do this.
7pm: Trev will be running a traning session from the Leisure Centre also. 1k reps x 4 for two sets.
This may be a good place for people to comment and let us know of any races or events during the week they can think of and want to suggest/chat about etc.
I will be travelling to Norfolk and doing the East Harling 10k. Lovely flat, low key route through the country lanes of Norfolk.
There’s also the Great Bentley Friday 5 (full), the Fen Gallop 10k and the Thetford Forest 10k hoohaa happening. Links for these events are on the website fixtures page.
Happy running everyone.
With the spring/summer season now in full swing a couple of points to be made:
- To try and avoid the mishap of last week each week there will now be a post on the website and Facebook (hopefully by Monday evening at the latest) detailing all the training and events on offer to club members for the week. This should hopefully avoid any confusion around what is happening. If you think I’ve forgotten anything then send me a private message and I can sort it out. There may be things you think are worth promoting that we haven’t thought of or heard about! This will be on a week to week basis to allow for flexibility for the coaches and their plans. There is still the training rota on the website as always if you need info that is further ahead. bear with me whilst we work out the best way to do all this.
- The ‘who does what’ page has been updated. Less people joined the committee than stood down this year so some posts are vacant. If you want to take part or help with any of them then please let us know. It takes a lot of effort to run the club and member input is super valuable, you don’t have to make a huge committment – any help is much appreciated!
- I attended the first steering group meeting of the Greater Cambridge Athletics Network after Kevin Henry last night, following the change of chairpeople (is that a word?). This is a great resource to the clubs in the area and they have put on some great talks in the past. They have a lot to offer and once things start getting planned we will keep you all posted.
Have a great weekend and happy running!
Michael Gilbert had a great race at the Bury 5 on Friday. He came 2nd with a chip time of 26:54! This was exactly the same chip time as the winner, so could have possibly won it if he’d started right on the start line (he was 2 secs behind on gun time). This time puts Michael top of the club records by over a minute!
Haverhill were also 2nd mens team! With Andrew Bell & Tony Bacon making up the rest of the team. They came 12th and 13th respectively finishing with exactly the same chip time of 29:15!
Kirsty Millard had a fantastic run, knocking over 2 minutes off her previous best! She moves up to 4th on the club records with 36:01! Kevin Millard is showing great improvement at the moment, he ran 34:52 and took 1min7secs off his previous best! He now has 6 PB’s this year which puts him joint 2nd in the PB league! Neil Mustoe took a good chunk off his PB too (1min28 secs), he ran 35:53. It was also his 6th PB of the year and so joins Kevin in joint 2nd place in the league.
Teresa Franklin took 8 seconds off her PB, running 41:32.
Ross Arnold also had a good race, running 40:14.
On Saturday there was a lot of parkrunning going on. Tony Bacon was first at Harlow parkrun. Vashti Macdonald-Clink (V Mac Clink) was 2nd female at the Great Cornard parkrun with 23:27 which would have been a PB if the course wasn’t short. Lynnette Garstang, Carl Oldford and Alison Goodwin also had great runs here, but sadly miss out on PB’s due to the short course.
Shirley Fowler did Gorleston parkrun in 23:36, she was 7th female and got a PB.
Horace Shuriah ran an incredible 50 miles on Saturday! This was in the Kent 50 Challenge. He finished in 27th place in 10:44:24!
On Sunday Alex Smith finished 2nd in the Quendon and Rickling 5K in 17:57!

It’s been a while since the last update and quite a few results have been added over the last six weeks. We have had the Great Baddow 10, Impington 5k, The Flaming June Half, Steeple Bumpstead 10k and the Bury Friday 5m. I have attached a file that has all the data I have for each race. If you have completed a Grand prix race and it’s not on the sheet. Please email me with the race, the time and your date of birth and I will update as soon as I can email@example.com.
As we are now halfway through the season you can see how you stand compared to your friends and who are the stand out runners in the race to the be this years winners. Anyone has a chance to win and there are still plenty of races to enter for anyone to complete the required amount.
Great running the current top 10 Yusuf Firat, Andy Barber, Teresa Franklin, Neil Mustoe, David Mansfield, Mike Freed, Cheryl Trundle, Shirley Fowler, Martin Lawrence and Michael Gilbert.
Grand Prix to 27.06.17 Filtered
