Junior Membership

If you’re aged 8-17 then Junior Membership is for you. If not, visit the Senior Membership page for further information.

Benefits of Junior Membership

We are an inclusive club that welcomes everyone – from those who want to run to stay healthy, those who want to improve their fitness to help them perform better in another sport like football or hockey, to those who want to be fast and compete in races. Whatever your reasons for joining HRC as a young person, they are all perfectly valid.

There are lots of benefits to Junior Membership, apart from keeping fit and healthy of course, including:

  • Weekly club training
  • Free entry to team races
  • Annual awards
  • Support and encouragement of our trained and dedicated coaches
  • Access to the club’s Facebook page (for ages 13+ and with parental/carer consent), where running is talked about all day long!

As an England Athletics Affiliated Club, registered athletes aged 11 and over will also be entitled to reduced race entry fees and other discounts and benefits. For further information about the benefits of athlete registration, click here.

Junior Membership levels and fees

The membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March.

If you’re aged 8-10 and won’t celebrate your 11th birthday on or before 31st March 2025 then Non-affiliated (U11) Membership is for you. The fee for this type of membership is £32 per annum, or a prorated amount if there is less than 12 months of the membership year remaining.

If you’re aged 11 and over, or you’ll celebrate your 11th birthday on or before 31st March 2025, you’ll need to be registered with England Athletics and so one of the following membership types will apply, depending on your circumstances:

  • First Claim Membership: £38 per annum, or which £19 is payable to England Athletics. If there is less than 12 months of the membership year remaining when you join, the HRC portion of the fee will be prorated. First Claim membership means that Haverhill Running Club is your main club and will appear on your competition licence.
  • Second Claim Membership: £19 per annum, or a prorated amount if there is less than 12 months of the membership year remaining. Second claim membership applies if you already have First Claim membership with another club. Your competition licence will state the name of the other club, who will pay the England Athletics fee.

Membership fees are non-refundable.

Submitting your membership application

To maximise the benefits that you can enjoy as a junior member of HRC, we keep our training groups relatively small. As such, there is a limited number of junior places, which can mean there is often a waiting list. Please contact us at juniors@haverhillrunningclub.com before submitting a membership application, so that we can advise you about membership availability and invite you along for a taster session, if applicable.

If we have confirmed that there is a place available and you are sure that running is for you, please ask your parent/carer to complete and submit a membership application by clicking on the link below. If you find that running is not for you, or another sport takes up all your time, please let us know so that we can offer your place to another person.

The application will ask your parent/carer to provide a number of personal details, including any health conditions that they feel HRC should be aware of. It will also ask them to confirm:

  • how they would like HRC to manage any photographic images of you that are taken during training sessions or races; and
  • that both you and your parent/carer agree to abide by the adopted England Athletics policies (including the applicable Code(s) of Conduct, safeguarding policies and grievance and disciplinary procedures), the HRC Facebook rules (if you use Facebook), and other relevant membership requirements.

By submitting a membership application, your parent/carer agrees for your personal details to be entered onto the England Athletics Portal. HRC may also need to share your name and date of birth with race event organisers if you participate in any team events in future. Your parent/carer will be asked to confirm their agreement for HRC to share your information in this way when completing the application form. Full details of how HRC use your personal data are given in our Privacy Notice.

Once your application has been processed, you’ll receive a welcome e-mail from HRC and an e-mail from England Athletics giving you access to the myAthletics portal, where you’ll be able to review and manage your personal details and confirm agreement to the applicable Code(s) of Conduct. A separate link will be sent requesting payment of any subscriptions that are due.
