At HRC do what we can to support deserving charities, our local community, and the environment.
Charity of the Year
Each year we select a charity that HRC can support through fundraising and other activities, such as raffles and cake stalls at our events. We always select charities that support the local community, or which have a direct connection with one or more of our members.
Our Charity of the Year for 2026 is ‘Memories are Golden‘.
Memories Are Golden bring together individuals living with dementia and those who may be at risk of social isolation from families, friends, and their community.
Their Community Hub provides a safe space to socialise and build friendships, as well as providing meaningful activities, entertainment, and social events, to improve well-being and reduce feelings of isolation.
Memories are Golden are driven by their values of empathy, commitment, and service excellence. Every individual is honoured and celebrated. They believe in providing a happier, healthier and more peaceful experience to people in the autumn of their lives.

Previous Charities of the Year have included Roald Dhals Marvellous Children’s Charity (2025), Suffolk Mind (2024), East Anglia Air Ambulance Service (2023) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (2022).
Active Kindness Rail
At HRC we encourage everyone, no matter their age or ability, to participate in running and/or other sports, to help them keep fit and maintain an active lifestyle. However, we know that for some, the cost of buying the appropriate active wear, such as sports shoes and clothing, can be prohibitive.
For this reason, HRC in partnership with Abbeycroft, established the Active Kindness Rail. This initiative aims to support children and adults participate in sports by providing them with access to FREE, quality active wear, donated by the local community. All they have to do is visit Haverhill Leisure Centre and ask reception to see what’s on the Rail.
Of course, this would not be possible without people donating active wear to the Kindness Rail. Donations can be dropped off at the Leisure Centre reception. Alternatively, people can swap active wear that they have perhaps outgrown or no longer use for something new from the Active Kindness Rail. All we ask is that donations are clean and in good condition.
Not only does this initiative support people engage in sporting activity, it also helps the environment by recycling active wear.

HRC Foodbank Run
For the first time in 2024 HRC organised a Food Bank Run for REACH in Haverhill.
Serving the local area, REACH is an independent charity that believes in a relational handholding approach to helping families and individuals who are suffering from or struggling with the effects of financial crisis or hardship. This includes debt advice, benefit help, housing, emergency food and utility assistance and more.
We hope to organise more food bank runs in the future.
