How it all works
The Club Championships use an age grading system to calculate scores for your performance in specific races. Age grading takes your time for each race and uses the world record time for your sex and age to produce a percentage score. This score allows you to compare your personal performance against other athlete’s performances over the same distance, even though they might be a different age and a different sex to you. This means that you don’t need to be the fastest runner to win! The results from the minimum number of races and race distances specified in the rules are then combined to give you a total score. Those with the highest scores win, Scroll to the bottom of this page for the latest scores and positions.
The awards
- A shield for the overall winner
- Awards for the top three male and female places
The rules and races
- The 2026 Club Championship runs from 1st December 2025 to the last Sunday before the 2026 HRC Christmas Party/Awards Night.
- During this period, you must complete at least SEVEN of the races shown in the table below. Note: those marked with * are also part of the Suffolk Grand Prix.
- Your result from each race will be converted into a percentage WAVA score then added together to arrive at a combined score. If you complete more than seven races, we will use the seven best WAVA scores to arrive at your combined score.
- In addition, bonus points will be awarded as follows:
- 3 points for representing HRC in official team events, including: Ekiden Relay; Round Norfolk Relay; Suffolk Cross Country Championships (or the equivalent events in Cambridgeshire or Essex); and Suffolk Road Relays (or the equivalent events in Cambridgeshire or Essex).
- 1 point for each Summer 5k Series race ran.
- 1 point for each Suffolk Winter League XC race ran.
- Your final score, which determines your place in the Club Championship results, will be calculated by adding together the combined score from the seven races and any bonus points that you have accumulated.
- You must be a fully paid-up Club member at the time of each race for the results to be allowed.
- When entering a race, make sure you enter as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ so that we can find your result when it becomes available. We’ll then obtain your race result directly from the race organiser and include this in your score calculation. If you did not enter as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ your result will not be counted.
- If the registration process did not allow you to enter as a HRC Affiliated Runner, or you entered a race as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ and your result is missing from the results page on the website, please notify us as soon as possible by completing the HRC Results Form.
- Unless you are running for a charity and wearing a charity vest or t-shirt, a HRC vest or t-shirt MUST be worn. For events that include a team competition, such as the 5K Summer Series, the Friday 5s, or races within the Suffolk Grand Prix, you MUST wear the Club’s primary club colours (i.e. black vest/t-shirt with silver side panels).
- The Committee reserve the right not to accept results where issues relating to race distance or other irregularities have been reported.
- If a race is cancelled, the Committee reserve the right to find a suitable alternative.
- As an HRC member we will automatically include you in the Club Championship. However, if you wish to withdraw from the competition, please send a request to secretary@haverhillrunningclub.com stating your reason.
Important note: For safety reasons, race organisers do not allow athletes to run under someone else’s name. To uphold this and ensure our records are correct and align with ‘official’ race results, please make sure that if you take someone else’s place in a race or you allow someone else to run in your place, the entry has been transferred into the name of the person who is running. If a transfer of name has not taken place for a particular race please let us know as we are not able to include the result from that race in the Club’s results tables, PB League, Club Championships or official Club Records. Failing to report this may invalidate your results and result in disqualification from Club competitions.
