UPDATED 2 DECEMBER 2025 – FINAL TABLE

How do the Club Championships work?
The Club Championships use an age grading system to calculate scores for your performance in specific races. Age grading takes your time for each race and uses the world record time for your sex and age to produce a percentage score. This score allows you to compare your personal performance against other athlete’s performances over the same distance, even though they might be a different age and a different sex to you. This means that you don’t need to be the fastest runner to win! The results from the minimum number of races and race distances specified in the rules are then combined to give you a total score. Those with the highest scores win,
What awards are there?
- A shield for the overall winner
- Awards for the top three male and female places
What are the rules?
- The 2025 Club Championship runs from 28th November 2024 to the last Sunday before awards night in November/December 2025.
- The races shown in the table below have been selected for inclusion in the Club Championship. In addition, any race ran in the Summer 5K series, any parkrun (within 25 miles of Haverhill), any Abbotts World Major Marathon, and HRC Time Trials are also included. Only results from these races are eligible for inclusion in the Club Championship.
- When entering a race, make sure you enter as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ so that we can find your result when it becomes available. For parkruns, make sure you’ve selected ‘Haverhill RC’ in the ‘Groups’ option from your parkrun profile.
- Providing you entered a race as an ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ we’ll obtain your race result directly from the race organiser and include this in your score calculation for the Club Championship. If you did not enter as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ your result will not be counted.
- If a race registration did not allow you to enter as an HRC Affiliated Runner, or you entered a race as a ‘HRC Affiliated Runner’ and the result is missing from the results page on the website, please notify us as soon as possible by completing the HRC Results Form.
- Your result from each race will be ranked using age grading (WAVA) to calculate a score.
- You will need to complete a minimum of 5 eligible races across a minimum of 3 different distances to qualify for consideration of an award.
- There is no limit on the number of races and race results. We will work out your 5 best WAVA scores (across a minimum of 3 different distances) to arrive at your final score. However, please note that if there are multiple results for either the HRC Time Trial or the same parkrun, only your highest score from each of these will count towards your final score.
- Bonus points will be awarded to runners for the following:
- 3 points for representing HRC in official team events, including: Ekiden Relay; Round Norfolk Relay; Suffolk Cross Country Championships (or the equivalent event in Cambridgeshire or Essex); and Suffolk Road Relays (or the equivalent event in Cambridgeshire or Essex).
- 1 point for each Summer 5k Series race ran.
- 1 point for each Suffolk Winter League XC race ran.
- Bonus points will also be awarded to members who undertake voluntary roles at races organised by HRC, even if they don’t run. This includes our Summer 5K Series race, our Suffolk Winter XC League race, and the Round Norfolk Relay. The number of bonus points awarded to volunteers will be the same as those awarded to runners (see point 9 above), but if a member undertakes a voluntary role and also runs, they will only be awarded bonus points for running.
- For the purposes of the competition, we consider the 5k Summer Series, HRC Time Trial and Parkruns as officially measured (5k) events.
- You must be a fully paid-up club member at the time of the race for the result to be allowed.
- Unless you are running for a charity and are wearing a charity vest or t-shirt, a HRC vest or t-shirt MUST be worn in any race that you run as a HRC member, i.e., where you make HRC ‘your club’ when entering the race. For eligible team events that include a team competition, such as the Friday 5s or races within the Suffolk Grand Prix, you MUST wear the Club’s primary club colours (i.e. black vest or t-shirt with silver side panels).
- The Committee reserve the right not to accept submissions where issues relating to race distance or other irregularities have been reported.
- If a race is cancelled, the Committee reserve the right to find a suitable alternative.
- We encourage all members to participate in the Club Championship. However, if you wish to withdraw from the competition, please send a request to secretary@haverhillrunningclub.com stating your reason.
Important note: For safety reasons, race organisers do not allow athletes to run under someone else’s name. To uphold this and ensure our records are correct and align with official race results, please make sure that if you take someone else’s place in a race or you allow someone else to run in your place, the entry has been transferred into the name of the person who will be running. If for any reason a transfer of name has not taken place before a race, please inform us immediately as we are not able to include the result from that race in Club records, including the PB League and Club Championships. Failing to report may result in disqualification of one or both individuals from the PB League and/or Club Championship.
What are the eligible races?
2025 Final Table
The table has been calculated such that it includes your best 5k Time Trial of the year (if that qualifies as one of your best results), all bonus points accrued, and all qualifying parkrun results.
Only those results that qualify as per the rules are included in the table. So for example, if you did more than three 5k races, only your best three will be included, as that’s the most of any one distance that can go to make up your score (because you would need another two results at different distances).
For the same reason, if you only did 5k races and 5 mile races – for example – the table will only show your best 4 WAVA scores from those events – I will have removed your lowest WAVA of those five results, because a 5th qualifying result would need to have been at a different distance to be eligible for the competition.
It’s all a bit complicated so, any questions, or if you think I have your score wrong, please get in touch – message me (Ian Martin on Facebook) or email me ianelden@hotmail.co.uk. I have the full list of all races you’ve all done that potentially fall within the Club Championships, and am happy to explain how your final score was arrived at.
