Haverhill Running Club Juniors is open to anyone aged 12 to 16. We are an inclusive club that welcomes anyone – from those who want to run to stay healthy, those who want to improve their fitness to help them perform better in another sport like football or hockey, to those who want to be fast and compete in races. Whatever reasons a young person has for joining our group, they are all acceptable.
The club was set up in May 2018 and is headed by Sil Clay, a level 3 coach in running and fitness and a long-time member of the adults section of the club. It was recognised by the committee that there was a need for a junior section and Sil took on the role to develop the junior section. The group’s training is all based on teaching good practices:
- thorough warm-ups and cool-downs
- regular agility and strength and conditioning training
- the gradual and appropriate increase of workload, speed and distance
- an efficient running technique.
Membership is open to anyone between the ages of 12 and 16.
The basic annual junior membership is £15, payable on joining the club. We recruit new members every three months so that each young person starts at the beginning of each new training schedule (see Training page).
For an additional £15 a year we can register members as a licensed runner with England Athletics. For more details on the benefits click here. Let us know if you’d like to add this to your membership as we must arrange this for you (Haverhill Running club is an affiliated athletics club and is responsible for registering athletes).
We wish to work with a relatively small group and have set the maximum number at 24. This means that if you find that running is not for you after all, or another sport takes up all your time, please let us know so that we can offer your place to someone else.
